Crash happened near South Glencoe Road

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A car crashed through a pool deck in New Smyrna Beach on Tuesday, injuring two people, according to the police department.

Police said that the car was driving south along South Glencoe Road toward Conservation Court, but surveillance footage shows the vehicle veering to the left.

As a result, the vehicle crashed through bushes and into a pool fence, ultimately pushing into the pool area, police added.

According to investigators, one person was hurt by debris that went flying from the crash, and another person was struck by the vehicle after it came through the pool deck.

Police also said that the pool fencing, pavers, hand rail, chairs and tables had been damaged in the crash.

However, the driver later claimed she passed out, police explained.

“(The driver) stated she looked down at her phone, which had directions to her ex-boyfriend’s house, and then looked back up and blacked out behind the wheel,” a release by the police department reads.

Due to her claims, police said a re-examination with the state was requested.
