Family mourns Orlando man killed in hit-and-run as FHP appeals for witnesses

Fatal wreck happened on Curry Ford Road near Colton Drive

ORLANDO, Fla. – The family of an East Orlando man is mourning after he was killed on Thursday night in a fatal hit-and-run car crash.

Jonnier Agosto Cortes’ father told News 6 he can’t believe his son is gone.

“(Cortes) was a great, great father, great man, and they took him away for me,” said Wilfredo Agosto. “So special. You know, right now, my heart is broken.”

Cortes’ family gathered to make funeral arrangements for the 28-year-old husband and father of a 1-year-old.

The hit-and-run happened on Curry Ford near Holten Drive, a very busy street. Using cameras at a nearby Walgreens where the vehicle stopped after the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol located the suspect’s vehicle, a 2010 Mitsubishi Galant. They took possession of it, but they still don’t have confirmation on who was driving the car.

The Florida Highway Patrol is hoping the public can help them figure out exactly what happened.

“If you saw that car that night, that 2010 Mitsubishi with the damage on the right passenger, the front right headlight, and that windshield, even if you just saw the car, it will definitely help,” said Trooper Magdilese Garcia.

Family members are also raising money for funeral costs and set up a GoFundMe. It says the money will be used to help send him back to Puerto Rico for a proper burial.

Anyone with information on the driver is asked to call FHP at (407) 737-2213 or CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS.
