WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – It’s been almost a month since Winter Springs cut the ribbon on its new pickleball complex at Central Winds Park, and the city says its success has exceeded their expectations.

The $3.1 million complex opened on April 13 as the largest in Seminole County with 14 tournament-capable courts.

News 6 has been monitoring comments left in a social media group dedicated to pickleball at Central Winds Park. The vast majority of players have been giving gleaming reviews about the new facility, but some took time to offer some feedback — something the city says it values.

“We are fortunate to have such an engaged Pickleball community,” said Matthew Reeser, the public information officer for the city of Winter Springs. “Their constructive comments have been invaluable in guiding our efforts and making the necessary adjustments.”

Several players in the social media group have suggested that the complex adopt a system that designates courts for beginners, intermediate players and advanced players. News 6 took that piece of feedback to the city.

“Ultimately, it was decided that to be as inclusive as possible, that wasn’t something that our team wanted to do,” Reeser said.

As for requests for windscreens, the city started putting them up on Friday, and News 6 was told the court registration system should be online in the coming weeks.
