Man found shot to death in Port Orange neighborhood identified

Santiago Carlos Hernandez-Castrodad arrested in death of Elmer Panameno Zelaya

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A 53-year-old Flagler County man was shot to death outside a Port Orange home Tuesday night, leading to the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect, police said.

Port Orange police said Elmer Panameno Zelaya died in the shooting, which happened around 7:30 p.m. on Elda Lane off Spruce Creek Road, south of Nova Road.

Police said officers were called to the neighborhood and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying outside a home. The man, later identified as Zelaya, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Detectives arrested Santiago Carlos Hernandez-Castrodad, 40, on a charge of second-degree murder, but details about what led to the shooting have not been released.
