ORLANDO, Fla. – A hot and dry dome of high pressure remains fully in control of Florida for the next several days, keeping temperatures across the Orlando area well above average — the hottest of 2024 — and close to century-old records.

On Wednesday, highs will soar into the mid-90s west of I-95 and the upper 80s for coastal communities.

The hottest day of 2024 in Orlando was 92 degrees on May 1 and May 7. That record is expected to be topped by several degrees on Wednesday.

Highs vs Record May 8

Even hotter weather is expected on Thursday, with several locations likely breaking record highs.

Temperatures will reach the upper 90s inland and the low 90s along the beaches.

Highs Thursday - May 9

Through the week, heat indices are forecast to reach 99-101 degrees across inland counties and the mid-90s along the coast. Temperatures like this can be dangerous, so make sure you remain hydrated and take cooling breaks if you need to be outdoors for a period of time.

A slight shift out of our hot weather pattern will begin late Friday as a weakening cold front arrives late Friday evening and into early Saturday morning. Rain coverage along the front is forecast to range between 20-40%, with scattered showers and a few storms.

Rain Trend Next 7 Days

For Mother’s Day weekend, temperatures will cool back to near normal — in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees — with conditions remaining mostly dry.

Our next best shot for rain in Central Florida returns Monday, likely remaining through the rest of the week. This will hopefully bring Florida much needed dent to our drought concerns.
