5 Marion County deputies suspended for excessive use of force

Deputies serving arrest warrants when incident occurred, report states

OCALA, Fla. – Five Marion County sheriff's deputies have been suspended after the agency found they used excessive force while serving arrest warrants.

Jesse Terrell, Cody Hoppel, Adam Crawford, Trevor Fitzgerald and James Amidei were suspended without pay after the Aug. 7 incident sparked a standard use of force review, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The deputies were serving five arrest warrants when the incident occurred.

Following a three-month long investigation, deputies seized cocaine, $39,000 in cash, prescription drugs, guns and luxury vehicles from a Marion County home.

One of the five arrested, Derrick Price, claimed that deputies used excessive force during the arrest.  A mugshot of Price showed bruising and scrapes around his left eye.

MCSO said when it reviewed video of the arrest, it found the deputies acted excessively.

The investigation has been turned over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Video of the incident has not been released.
