PINE HILLS, Fla. – One of five people who were shot Sunday night in Pine Hills has died, according to Orlando police.
Authorities said Jeffery Webb, 47, died after the shooting, which was reported at 9:50 p.m. at 5100 N. Lane Parkway near Pine Hills Road in Orlando.
Police said several people were standing in front of a business and in a parking lot when at least one person opened fire.
Three victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and two were taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, but their conditions have not been released.
Witnesses said they heard at least a dozen shots and saw the victims run to a nearby 7-Eleven for help.
"He was like a father to me and my best friend. Now he's gone. I don't know what I'm going to do without him," Andre Brooks said.
Brooks was a friend of Webb's.
He said he helped him get a job at a local convenience store.
Brooks was joined by friends Monday afternoon as they placed balloons and candles at the shopping center where Webb was shot.
"I just wish they would stop everything. Just take all the guns away. It would be better," said Brooks.
The Rev. Kelvin Cobaris of Impact Church made his way through the crowd and made it a point to start an open dialogue.
"We need the community to share information because that's the only way that we're going to resolve this, and then beyond that we've got to work collectively to save our youth," said Cobaris.
It was the same message he expressed in October after a man was shot and killed in the Parramore community.
"This is an epidemic in our community, and I keep telling everyone it's not one solution. It's going to take a community collective effort to work for prevention to prevent these types of things from happening," said Cobaris.
Sandra Fatmi is urging people to start talking and share what is happening in the Pine Hills community.
This is her first year as the community council president.
"It's going to take people leaving their homes and coming out here today, as you are out here today," said Fatmi.
It's not known what led to the shooting.
"There were numerous people who fled the area prior to police arriving on scene, and detectives would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed anything at all," police said. "They are asked to contact Orlando police or Crimeline (800-423-TIPS) if they have any information."
No arrests have been made.
