Arnold Palmer Hospital pediatric oncology dept. expands, gets new name

ORLANDO, Fla. – You know its a special day when Arnold Palmer makes an appearance. He came to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children to celebrate the expansion and renaming of the pediatric oncology department.

This expansion is all thanks to the generous donation made by Roy and Dee Haley.

It's not everyday when someone gives $5 million to a charity, but the Haleys step forward not because they wanted to honor a loved one but because they were fortunate and wanted to help

"Dee and I in our lives have indeed been fortunate and I think the community here has benefited and is fortunate for the kind of resources we have here and the kind of care they get at Arnold Palmer hospital," Roy Haley said.

This donation will establish and expand the hospital's pediatric bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy program.

News 6 spoke to the Tanner family who says they know first hand how this donation is a blessing to local families

"When you have your other children, your spouse at home and you have to be with your child who is sick, it also takes them away from their family. It's a huge thing for them to have the money and resources to give that treatment here in Central Florida. It's a great thing," Jennifer Tanner said.

And her daughter, Evie, speaks for all the kids at the hospital when she says, "Thank you Mr and Mrs Haley."
