Arrests made in shooting near Leesburg Bikefest

LEESBURG, Fla. – Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting between motorcycle clubs at Leesburg Bikefest in April, according to the Leesburg Police Department.

Marc Edward Knotts, 48, and Jesus Alberto Marrero, 35, were arrested Wednesday morning on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping. Police said warrants have been issued for Gregory Alan Umphress, 32, and Miquel Angel Torres, 37, but they have not yet been arrested.

Umphress and Torres face conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping charges. Torres is also accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Knotts and David R. Donovan, 41, were each shot three times on April 29 at a convenience store near the festival. Police said an argument between members of two motorcycle groups escalated to gunfire.

Donovan died over the weekend from his gunshot injuries. Knotts recovered from his injuries. He was wearing a ballistic vest during the shooting, authorities said.

The arrests were the result of a joint effort between the Leesburg Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Ocala Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, and Brevard County Sheriff’s office.
