TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Titusville police say one person is dead after an officer-involved shooting that was sparked by a bank robbery Wednesday morning, according to police.
The incident began about 10:50 a.m. after patrol officers responded to the Bank of America at the intersection of Harrison Street and Barna Avenue for an armed robbery call.
Police said 25-year-old Jessie Joynt robbed the bank.
Jacob Conner said he was driving when he saw a security officer run out of the bank, then Joynt walking calmly as police started to surround him on all sides.
Conner's cellphone video shows Joynt appearing to put his hands in the air, then as he appears to pull something out from his clothing, the video stops.
"Then all the officers ran over to him and everything. They were all around him, helping him, and then then the fire truck showed up and they tried helping him," Conner said.
The officer was not hurt and is on leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.
Police didn't say if Joynt pulled a gun on them, but said he did have two firearms.
No other details were immediately available.
