Casselberry PD: Two officers injured, suspect dead after shooting

CASSELBERRY, Fla. – Casselberry police and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating an officer-involved shooting that injured two officers and left a man dead early Saturday morning, police said.

Officers responded to a home on the 700 block of Crestview Drive around 3:50 a.m. after receiving a call about a domestic situation, police said.

When police arrived, James Parran, 65, was standing outside the home, Casselberry police said. Officers said Parran raised a shotgun and fired at them, hitting two officers, according to Casselberry police Cmdr. William Nas. Casselberry police identified those officers as Cpl. Adam Phillips and Ryan McIntosh.

Both officers, as well as two other officers, then returned fire, Nas said. It is not known if Parran was hit by the officers' gunfire. A fifth officer was also on scene, but was not involved in the shooting, police said.

Casselberry police said the two injured officers were hit in the face and leg. Both officers were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. They have since been released and are doing "very well," according to the Casselberry Police Department. 

SWAT officials and several law enforcement agencies responded to the area to assist Casselberry police, Nas said.

Parran was found dead inside the home, police said. It is not known when or how he died. Casselberry police said Parran did not have a violent criminal history. 

Police said Parran's wife is safe and had left the home before officers arrived.

Crestview Drive was closed at both ends as officials continued to process the scene.
