POINCIANA, Fla. – A 16-year-old Central Florida student was arrested on attempted murder charges after, according to deputies, he stabbed a classmate in an argument over a Facebook post.

The teen was arrested Monday on seven counts of aggravated battery, one count of aggravated assault with a weapon and one count of attempted murder.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called around 6:45 p.m. Monday to the area of 131 Briarcliff Drive in Poinciana and found two juveniles fighting.  The teens attend Discovery Intermediate School, consisting of sixth through eighth grades, in Kissimmee, sheriff's officials said.

Witnesses told deputies that a 14-year-old was walking home with friends when he confronted the 16-year-old about a Facebook post, the Sheriff's Office said.

"He indicated to his father that the 14-year-old tried to approach him at school to confront him regarding the Facebook post," said Twis Lizasuain of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. "He ignored him the majority of the day, when he was walking home, that's when the 14-year-old confronted him."

The teens began to fight and the 16-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed the younger teen multiple times, deputies said.

"He was holding him by the neck, trying to choke him out and stabbing him," said Aida Serrano, who said she saw the teens fighting behind her home.

The 14-year-old was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center, while the 16-year-old was taken to Poinciana Hospital.  Their conditions were not released.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the older teen informed his father that earlier in the day the 14-year-old told students at school he wanted to fight the 16-year-old over comments the older teen posted on Facebook.

The 16-year-old said he tried to ignore the boy during school but was confronted while walking home, according to deputies.

The 16-year-old was arrested and taken to the Orange County Juvenile Detention Center.

"It happens every day at this school, there's always fights, it's everyday," Serrano said, adding that deputies should be monitoring the school more often.

No other details have been released.

Local 6 is withholding the teens' names because of their age.
