Charges won't be filed against woman accused of helping Markeith Loyd

State attorney's office cites lack of evidence against Lakensha Smith Loyd

ORLANDO, Fla. – The state attorney's office said Tuesday that formal charges will not be filed against against Lakensha Smith Loyd, who was accused of helping murder suspect Markeith Loyd avoid capture.

Smith Loyd, 27, was arrested last month, but she was released from jail after her bond was lowered from $750,000 to $10,000.

Law enforcement officials said Smith Loyd picked up money for Loyd at his former workplace, helping him evade authorities. The state attorney's office said, however, that a lack of sufficient evidence against Smith Loyd led to the decision not to press charges.

Meanwhile, bond for Jameis Slaughter, also accused of helping Loyd avoid capture, was reduced Tuesday from $500,000 to $20,000. She's also jailed on a $5,000 bond for giving officers a false name.

Zarghee Mayan, Loyd's former boss who is accused of assisting Loyd, also had his bond reduced to $20,000, officials said.

Loyd, the uncle of Smith Loyd, was arrested on murder charges in the slayings of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, and Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton after a nine-day manhunt.
