Child alerts family to fire after waking to popping noise outside home

Family of 7 safely escapes Orlando home

ORLANDO, Fla. – A family of seven escaped a house fire early Monday in Orlando after a child was awakened by a popping noise outside the home, officials said.

The fire was reported at a home on Galsworthy Avenue near Sand Lake Road and Orange Blossom Trail.

Firefighters said the home did not have smoke detectors.

"If that child hadn't woken up, we very well could have been pulling three children and four adults out of this structure," a fire official said. "The fire department is a great resource for installing smoke detectors. We'll be happy to come to your house."

A van next to the house was also burned in the blaze, but the cause of the fire is not known.

The state fire marshal will investigate the blaze.
