VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County deputies arrested a man wanted on child molestation charges early Saturday, Volusia County deputies said.
Deputies were searching for Michael McCabe, 47, of Port Orange, who was accused of molesting multiple children after befriending their family members, deputies said. With four victims already identified, deputies fear there may be more.
Volusia County deputies said McCabe has warrants out for his arrest on three counts of lewd or lascivious molestation and one count of sexual battery of a victim under the age of 12.
"He was friendly, talkative and everything," neighbor Johnathan Fuller said. "He was always with the kids. (It) seems like he took really good care of them. Seemed like they really liked him."
The alleged incidents happened in the Ormond Beach-Holly Hill area, officials said. Other cases might have occurred in Port Orange or elsewhere, they said.
Deputies said they believe McCabe befriended families in need and gained their trust before moving in to gain access to their children.
In January, two of the victims told detectives that McCabe had molested them throughout the last few years, the Sheriff's Office said. Their case led to the identification of another victim, deputies said. The fourth victim went to Port Orange police on Friday with similar allegations, deputies said.
This case is being investigated by the Sheriff's Office Exploitation Unit.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood tweeted a statement about the case on Friday afternoon.
