VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies are trying to figure out who placed a huge concrete barrier in the driveway of a Volusia County woman's home, as she believes this was more than just an innocent prank.
The concrete block weighs several hundred pounds, and deputies believe the person who placed it in the homeowner's driveway used some sort of machinery to get it there.
It happened on Lin Gina Terrace, a private dirt road near Edgewater.
Nancy Kennedy seems to love living in the house out in the woods on a dirt road. But over the weekend, someone plopped an enormous concrete block right in the middle of the driveway.
"I left my house between 2 and 2:30 and when I came home, around 6:30, 7 o'clock, it was here," Kennedy said.
Kennedy never expected to encounter this kind of roadblock in her life.
"I'm in shock. I can't believe it, and I got out and looked and I couldn't believe it," said Kennedy. "This is a heavy block. It can't be moved."
Kennedy believes someone intentionally dropped the concrete barrier in order to harass her. She suspects a neighbor with who she's had an ongoing feud, but that neighbor told Local 6 he has no idea who put the block there.
"I'm a single woman. Old. I don't have 4-wheel drive," the neighbor said. "I don't have a big truck."
Since Kennedy lives on a private road, she said the county is unable to help her get rid of the massive block. She said she'll probably have to pay someone to remove it.
In the meantime, Kennedy has been forced to park her car around the corner.
"I can't get into my property. Sometimes I come home 10:30, 11 o-clock at night from work. It's dark," Kennedy said. "Nothing but woods around here, and it's scary."
Kennedy knows eventually she will have to get someone to haul the big concrete block out of there. She just worries that as soon as it goes away, somebody is going to bring it right back.
