FDOT officials said a depression formed around 4:30 p.m. and crews closed the northbound outside right lane of the road.
The hole was 5 feet by 7 feet and about 9 feet at the deepest portion, FDOT said. A crew that was working a few streets over was able to arrive quickly and close the road before anyone drove into it.
FDOT Materials and Research assisted Thursday. Officials said a decision was made to fill and compact the hole.
The northbound outside right lane will remain closed throughout the weekend. FDOT said the inside lane is expected to be opened sometime after 11 p.m. Thursday.
The southbound lanes are open and were unaffected by the incident, officials said.
