Central Florida doctor accused of sex battery bonds out of jail

Osceola County doctor asked victim if she felt excited during exam, deputies say

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Osceola County deputies arrested a doctor after they say he sexually battered a 20-year-old patient during a gynecological exam.

Basharat Hussain, 42, the owner of Wellness & Primary Care, was charged with sexual battery on Wednesday.

Deputies said the victim visited Hussain at his Wellness & Primary Care office in the 2900 block of East Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee three weeks ago for an annual gynecological exam. Hussain conducted the exam with a nurse present but based on the victim's results, referred her to a gynecologist, according to deputies.

On Monday, the victim went to Hussain's office for a different medical reason and while at the office, he asked her about the previous visit concern before conducting another gynecological exam without a nurse present and without using gloves, according to deputies.

Deputies said the following day, the victim went to Hussain's office to request a doctor's note for work purposes and when she arrived, the office was closed. The victim saw Hussain in the parking lot, asked him to write her a note and he invited her inside, according to the report.

Hussain asked her about pains she was having in her stomach from an earlier visit, asked to her stand up, lifted her dress up and checked her without gloves on, deputies said.

Deputies said Hussain asked the victim if she felt excited, to which the victim told Hussain she felt uncomfortable and asked for her doctor's note to leave.

The victim immediately went to the Sheriff's Office to report the incident.

Thursday, Hussain made his first court appearance from the Osceola County Jail, where he didn't say anything, letting his lawyer speak for him.

The judge set his bond at $10,000, with strict orders to stay away from the alleged victim.

Hussain covered his face and had nothing to say to News 6 Thursday night when he bonded out of jail. However, the person who bonded him out, apparently another one of his patients, defended Hussain and said the alleged victim made up the story.

The judge warned Hussain not to examine any more women at his medical practice without another female staff member in the room with him.

Some of his patients showed up for appointments Friday only to learn from News 6 about his arrest.  A sign hanging from the office says, "Closed Due To Office Emergency."

Some patients said they would not return, but others said they would be back.

"If he comes back, I'll be back. He didn't do nothing to me," said Joe Bruner, a patient at Wellness & Primary Care.

Deputies are asking anyone who may have had a similar incident with Hussain to contact Osceola County Sheriff's Office at 407-348-2222.
