2 sought after 100 mph chase in Orange County, FHP says

Stolen car crashes into pole near SR 408, troopers say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A driver in a stolen car is sought after leading Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a high-speed chase on State Road 408 in Orange County before crashing into a pole, officials said.

The crash was reported early Friday on Hiawassee Drive near S.R. 408.

The FHP said troopers saw a car traveling about 90 mph was not maintaining its lane and forced another vehicle off the road.

A chase reaching more than 100 mph ensued, with the stolen car exiting at Kirkman Road before returning to S.R. 408, the FHP said.

The driver then exited at Hiawassee but lost control and crashed into a pole, troopers said.

Three occupants ran away, but troopers said one of them was taken into custody. He was identified by the FHP as Mario Sosa, 18, of Orlando.

The driver and another passenger have not been found.

"We do believe those two were able to break that perimeter or contact someone to get them," a trooper said. "We're contacting the other passenger in the car, and we'll probably identify these people very shortly."

A gun was found in the car, which was reported stolen in Osceola County, the FHP said.

"You may have gotten away today, but you endangered a lot of people on the road," a trooper said. "We're grateful this happened in the early morning hours, but your crime will always catch up to you."

Troopers said it's not known if the culprits are connected to an armed robbery that was reported around the same time.
