Cause of fire under investigation

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Members of an Orange County family have been forced to find a new place to stay after an early-morning fire at their duplex.

Firefighters were called to the residence on Washington Street just after 1:30 a.m. Friday.

J'mia Taylor, 17, managed to escape with her grandmother, younger brother, dog and a family friend.

“I thought I was going to die, it was so much smoke in the house and when I got up, my eyes was just burning. I was scared, and everybody was just coughing, and they was, like, 'Make sure everybody get out,'" Taylor said.

Crews told News 6 that when they arrived, smoke and flames were pouring from the duplex.

Firefighters put out the fire before the flames spread to the adjacent duplex.

A family member who was inside the home at the time of the fire told News 6 she heard cracking noises in the middle of the night, then her grandmother yelling.

Officials with the Orange County Fire Department said no was hurt.

The Red Cross has been called in to help the two adults and two teenagers who lived in the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
