'We all ran for our lives': Fiamma 911 calls shed light on moments of terror

New records released in workplace shooting

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The front door was locked June 5 when a temp on her first day tried to walk into the Fiamma building on Forsyth Road, so she went in the side door and walked into a man pointing a gun at her.

"He pointed the gun at me and said, 'Get out, get out,'" she told Orange County dispatchers in a 911 call. "I put my hands up and walked out."

She took three steps outside the building before she started running.

Then she heard two gunshots.

That call and 16 others were released by the Orange County Sheriff's Office Friday night giving the first real-time look at the panic and confusion in the minutes following the June 5 shooting that left five dead.

Deputies said John Robert Neumann Jr., 45, a disgruntled ex-employee, gunned down former co-workers and his manager before killing himself.

"I can't believe he didn't shoot me," the temp said.

A call between a couple was disrupted by gun fire when Neumann walked into the Fiamma, Inc. building and started shooting.

A woman was on the phone with her fiancé while he was at his job at the Fiamma warehouse when gunshots rang out, and then she heard her fiancé running.

"One of the ex-employees came in, who got fired, is shooting them, shooting up the place right now as we speak," she told dispatch.

While her fiancé and four others hid behind the building and waited for help, Orange County authorities began to understand what happened that morning.

The first call came in at 8:03 a.m. that Monday morning. First responders were dispatched to the active shooting situation at 8:05 a.m. and arrived two minutes later, Orange County Fire Rescue Chief Otto Drozd said.

"I heard just the gunshots and then he told me 'OMG, John’s here shooting,'" she said on the 911 call.

"Who's John?" the dispatcher responds.

Neumann was fired from the Orange County RV accessory business in April by one of the victims, Robert Snyder, 69. Snyder, the lead manager at Fiamma, warned others of the gunman's behavior prior to the shooting.

Another caller who lives near the business said a Fiamma employee jumped her fence, rang her doorbell and told her to call 911.

"Someone is shooting and we all ran for our lives," the employee told the neighbor.

Before Neumann turned the gun on himself he shot and killed Robert Snyder, 69; Brenda Montanez-Crespo, 44; Kevin Clark, 53; Jeffrey Roberts, 57; and Kevin Lawson, 46. Read more about them here.
