ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A new high school will not be built in west Orange County.

The Orange County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday voted 6-1 against the proposal, which would have rezoned a plot of land at the corner of Ficquette Road and State Road 535 for the new school.

Commissioner Ted Edwards of District 5 was the only member to vote in favor of the initiative.

Parents and Orange County Public Schools leaders said the school was needed to help overcrowding at West Orange High School.

Some homeowners agree that a new school is needed, but they didn't want it on that plot of land, which backs up to their homes.

One concern they cited was traffic.  Another was the lights coming from the proposed football stadium.
