Daytona International Speedway sign torn down

Sign demolished as part of Daytona Rising project

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A sign that welcomed visitors to the Daytona International Speedway for more than 20 years has been torn down.

The 54-foot-tall sign stood along International Speedway Boulevard since 1994, but it was demolished Thursday morning.

The removal of the sign is a part of the $400 million Daytona Rising Project.

When the project is complete, the speedway will have five expanded entrances, new shops, exhibits, foods, wider seats and a new tower.

The makeover is expected to be completed by early 2016.
