POINCIANA, Fla. – A former Poinciana High School band director is accused of having sex with two teens, according to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives arrested 25-year-old Steven Velez, of Kissimmee, and charged him with two counts of unlawful sex with certain minors, deputies said.
The Sheriff's Office said the investigation began Nov. 18 when deputies took a report from a 17-year-old student at Poinciana High School. The student told deputies that last year -- when she was 16 years old -- she began receiving text messages from Velez, who at the time was the band director at the school.
The teen began going over to his house and eventually they began a sexual relationship, deputies said.
The student recently found out Velez also has a sexual relationship with another 17-year-old student at the school. Detectives confirmed there was a second victim.
Velez was brought in for questioning. Deputies said he cooperated with the investigation, was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail.
Velez resigned his position with the school district last week, according to the Sheriff's Office.
