Historic 'Ma Barker' home moves across Lake Weir

House to be taken to Carney Island Conservation Area

OCKLAWAHA, Fla. – A piece of history went on a on a short, but very important, trip Thursday.

Crews floated the "Ma Barker" house across Lake Weir in Marion County. 

The house was made famous in 1935, when gangster Fred Barker and his mother were killed in a shootout with the FBI. 

The land the home sat on was recently sold. 

Crews moved the house across Lake Weir to the Carney Island Conservation Area, where the county plans to preserve it and turn it into a museum.
