Publix Deli BBQ sauce recalled over potential fish allergen not on label

Ventura Foods of Brea, California initiated the voluntary recall on Publix Deli Carolina-Style Mustard BBQ Sauce (Food and Drug Administration)

ORLANDO, Faa. – A type of Publix deli barbecue sauce has been recalled because it may contain an undeclared fish allergen, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Ventura Foods of Brea, California initiated the voluntary recall on Publix Deli Carolina-Style Mustard BBQ Sauce that was sold exclusively at Publix Super Markets, according to a news release.

The FDA said that the sauce may contain a fish (anchovy) allergen that is not declared on the label.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to fish (anchovy) run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the release read in part.

The recall only impacts the Publix Deli Carolina-Style Mustard BBQ Sauce with the use by date of April 08, 2024.

The sauce was sold at Publix stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The FDA said that there have been no reported cases of illness yet.

Publix Super Markets have removed all affected products from its shelves. No other Ventura Foods products are affected by this recall.

If consumers have a product affected by this recall, they are advised to discard it immediately or return the product to their local store for a full refund.
