TAVARES, Fla. – Lake County Supervisor of Elections Alan Hayes told News 6 on Tuesday that having issues of abortion and marijuana on the ballot “will definitely have an impact” on this year’s election process.
Yesterday’s ruling by the Florida Supreme Court to allow these two amendments on the ballot has caught the attention of many people.
Some were predicting lower voter turnout because of an unpopular rematch between President Biden and former President Donald Trump.
However, Hayes said his officer monitors how many people sign up to vote on a weekly basis and would not be surprised to see an increase with these two new issues on the ballot.

Residents can expect to see mailers, billboards and other campaign material in the coming weeks as advocates on both sides of these issues try to gather public support.
Florida has been regarded as a majority-red state, but on Tuesday, the Biden Administration indicated that Florida would play an even stronger role in the election now that voters will have a chance to have their voices heard on the abortion issue.
Voters must be registered 29 days before the election to vote.
