City says impersonator spoke with homeowner in Cardinal Pines

MASCOTTE, Fla. – The city of Mascotte on Wednesday warned residents of a person impersonating a code enforcement officer.

In a Facebook post, the city said the incident happened in Cardinal Pines where the impersonating officer tried to “deceive a homeowner regarding alleged violations of home color codes which do not exist.”

The city said the person also flew a drone in the homeowner’s backyard.

“Please note that the City of Mascotte does not mandate specific colors for residential homes. Furthermore, the city does not employ the use of drones for code enforcement purposes,” the city wrote.

If you experience a similar situation, you are asked to call the police department’s non-emergency line at 352-429-3393 or 911 if it’s an emergency.

“We believe this incident to be a scam of an individual attempting to impersonate a city code enforcement employee and does not reflect the practices of the City of Mascotte. We appreciate your cooperation in remaining vigilant and helping to maintain the integrity of our neighborhoods,” the city said.
