21-year-old man dies in apparent drowning at DeLeon Springs State Park

Man did not know how to swim, deputies say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 21-year-old man died Tuesday in an apparent drowning at DeLeon Springs State Park in Volusia County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 3 p.m. to the park and attempted life-saving measures before taking the man to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said the man was visiting from Texas and was at the park with family.

“The victim reportedly did not know how to swim but left the shallow area. He disappeared in the water for several minutes before he was discovered missing and pulled out of the deep area,” deputies said in a release.

There were no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.
