Arrest made after man shot multiple times in Apopka driveway, deputies say

Deputeis say the victim is in critical condition

APOPKA, Fla. – Orange County Sheriff’s deputies say a teenager has been arrested following a shooting in Apopka on Thursday morning.

The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. on the 200 block of East 13th Street.

Responding deputies say they found a man in his 50s who had been shot by a known suspect. Witnesses at the scene told deputies the shooter was 19-year-old Keith Simmons.

Simmons and the victim, Chester Keys, got into a verbal confrontation in the driveway of a home, which led to the shooting, according to the report filed by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say Keys was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Authorities say Simmons left the scene but was later arrested and charged with attempted murder with a firearm.
