Orange County deputies investigate undernourished cows in Apopka

Community urged not to feed cows as deputies monitor care

APOPKA, Fla. – Concerns about a group of cows in Apopka spread online this week after people said the animals appeared too thin.

Photos and videos shared on social media showed the cows in a field, with some commenters questioning whether they were being properly cared for and others debating whether their appearance was normal.

“I saw a lot of people saying the same thing as me… that they need better care… and asking why nobody’s investigating,” said Amy-Anna Abruzzo, who said she became concerned after seeing the posts online.

The debate intensified after a post from Apopka police warned people not to feed the livestock or go onto the property.

“It made me upset… I understand you can’t be trespassing… but at the same time… it felt like they weren’t addressing what people were concerned about,” Abruzzo said.

News 6 reached out to multiple agencies about the situation.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said its Agricultural Crimes Unit has been to the property and determined the cattle were undernourished.

Deputies said they are now working with the owner on a proper feeding plan and are making follow-up visits to ensure the cows are getting the food they need.

Authorities also stressed that people should not try to feed the animals themselves.

Deputies said cows have a sensitive digestive system, and feeding them the wrong food can make them sick.

Apopka police told News 6 they have no comment and will not be providing interviews.
