ORLANDO, Fla. – A judge on Wednesday denied a motion to reduce bond for Zarghee Mayan, who is accused of helping murder suspect Markeith Loyd avoid capture in Orlando.
Mayan was in court as his attorney asked for Mayan's bond to be lowered from $400,000 to $10,000.
Loyd is accused in the shooting deaths of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, and Orlando police Lt. Debra Claytona.
The state argued that Mayan is a flight risk and has extensive family in New York.
Mayan's attorney said his client, a father of four, would turn over his passport and has no reason to leave Florida.
"He's not a danger to this community," Mayan's attorney said.
"Debra Clayton is dead because this man helped Markeith Loyd stay out after Sade Dixon was murdered by Markeith Loyd," a prosecutor said.
Prosecutors said Mayan, who used to be Loyd's boss, helped Loyd after Loyd shot and killed Dixon in December.
Mayan said he helped Loyd because he was afraid for his safety, his attorney said previously.
Loyd was arrested after a nine-day manhunt in the wake of Clayton's death.
A similar case for a lower bond was made last week for Loyd's niece. The bond for Lakensha Smith Loyd was lowered, and she posted a $10,000 bond and was released from the Orange County Jail.

(News 6 initially reported that Mayayn's bond was $750,000, not $400,000. We regret the error.)
