Orange County deputies said Craig Lazar Bent, 33, shot Brandon Bascom, 32, while the victim was sitting inside his car at the Kwik Stop off Powers Drive. It happened around 2:30 p.m. Deputies said he tried to drive in reverse to avoid getting shot and ended up crashing into a woman who was putting groceries in her car. She had to be taken to the hospital for a leg injury.

The homicide was one of four shootings and one stabbing that weekend in Pine Hills.

Bascom was later identified as a suspect in a Tavares home invasion, according to Tavares police.

Bent is charged with first-degree felony murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Bent had his first appearance Wednesday morning and was denied bond by an Orange County judge.
