Man hit by SunRail train in Longwood survives crash, police say

LONGWOOD, Fla. – A pedestrian was hit by a SunRail train Tuesday in Longwood and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Longwood police officials said the train was traveling south after leaving the Longwood station when the man was struck. He was treated by Longwood Fire Rescue and then taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford.

Longwood police continue to investigate the incident.

This year has seen an increase in SunRail pedestrian deaths. A man hit and killed in Longwood Sept. 21 became the sixth fatal crash this year for the commuter rail.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said that in each of those crashes, the victims should not have been on the tracks.
