Man seriously injured in motorcycle explosion at race track

Victim airlifted to hospital after being burned at Orlando Speed World Dragway

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was seriously injured late Wednesday when a motorcycle exploded at an Orlando race track, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred at Orlando Speed World Dragway at 19164 E. Colonial Drive.

Deputies said the man was working on the motorcycle when the explosion occurred. The man suffered significant burns, according to deputies, and was airlifted to a hospital.

Officials said the explosion was possibly related to nitrous oxide, which is used to make engines run faster.

According to the race track's website, a "Test N Tune" was held at the track Wednesday night, an event that allows "grudge racing" and "fun runs."

Deputies said the explosion is being investigated as an industrial accident.

No other details, including information about the victim, have been released.
