Police: Security guard returns fire after being shot at by suspect

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man shot at a security officer at an Orlando flea market early Sunday, the Orlando Police Department said.

Officers said the shooting at Magic Mall on West Colonial Drive took place at 3:02 a.m. after the security officer asked people to leave the store's parking lot.

A man, later identified as Meverick JN Phillip, in the parking lot argued with the security officer, pulled out a gun and shot it at the security officer, police said. The security officer was not hit by the gunfire, officers said.

The security officer returned fire and hit Phillip, police said. The suspect suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was hospitalized.

Phillip is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault with a firearm and a shooting from a vehicle within 100 feet of a person.

Police said the shooting is still being investigated.
