ORLANDO, Fla. – A man who unofficially volunteered with the Jones High School track and field team is accused of having sex with a teenage girl multiple times during a two-month period, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
The victim told deputies that Harold Wise, 46, had been her coach for about two years, but their relationship didn't become sexual until October 2016. Deputies said the girl told them that she and Wise had sex multiple times at his home and a motel in Kissimmee up until Dec. 26, when she told her mother about the relationship.
Wise's daughter confronted her father and the girl about the nature of their relationship in November when the victim was at their house and she saw an inappropriate picture message on the girl's phone, the incident report said. Deputies didn't provide details on what was said during that conversation.
Kathy Marsh, Orange County Public Schools director of media relations, said Wise helped out with the boy's track team last season, but he was never registered as a volunteer and stopped attending practices when the principal said only registered volunteers would be permitted on the field.
"He was not a registered volunteer, nor did he work one-on-one with students," Marsh said. "He would speak with coaches about ways to improve a student athlete’s performance."
The Kissimmee Police Department said Wise is an independent track and field coach who is not affiliated with any schools.
Wise was arrested Jan. 11 on five counts of solicitation to commit carnal intercourse with a minor. He's being held without bail at the Orange County Jail.
