Mom who drove children into ocean denied motion for visitation

Judge wants detailed supervision plan for Ebony Wilkerson to visit kids

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A judge denied the motion that would allow the woman who drove her SUV into the ocean with her children inside to see her children, but says she agrees that there should be face-to-face visitation.

"For something like this to happen to you and not have your babies, it's the hardest thing for a mom like me to have gone through, said Ebony Wilkerson, who spoke publicly for the first time after Monday's hearing.

Wilkerson made worldwide headlines after the 2014 incident. Rescuers had to rush into the water after the then pregnant mother drove into the waters off Daytona Beach with her three children.

She has been in jail and treatment centers since then, but her therapists say she is ready to now have visits with her children.

The judge on Monday agreed with the therapist recommendations that face-to-face visitation would be beneficial, but wants a detailed supervision plan in place before approving the motion.

"(I will) not give up, because my babies need me and I need my babies," said Wilkerson.

The defense will work to draw up the plan, then present it before the judge at a later date.
