Rope found hanging near school entrance

GOTHA, Fla. – Orange County School officials notified parents Wednesday after a noose was found outside Gotha Middle School.

A recorded message was sent out to parents by the Windermere school principal Patrice Knowles.

"I need to let you know that upon arrival to school today, we discovered a rope tied in the form of a noose hanging near our front entrance to the school," Knowles said in the recorded message.

Students and staff saw the noose and notified authorities, Knowles said.

"This type of incident will not be tolerated in any Orange County Public School campus," Knowles said.

Orange County deputies are investigating the incident at the school at 9155 Gotha Road, according to Orange County Public Schools.

"(The) preliminary investigation does not indicate a crime has take place at this time," Orange County Sheriff's Office public information Officer Rosa Silva said.
