1 dead when semi, pickup truck collide in Orange County

State Road 50 reopens hours after fatal crash

BITHLO, Fla. – One person was killed early Monday when a tractor-trailer collided with a pickup truck in Orange County, according to officials.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Donald Davis, 41, of Orlando, died in the crash, which happened on East State Road 50 near Berkely Street in Bithlo.

The FHP said Davis ran a stop sign at Berkley Street and traveled into the path of the big rig, which struck the pickup.

Davis, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The driver of the semi, a 50-year-old Lake Wales man, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the FHP said.

Both directions of Colonial Drive were closed in the area but later reopened.
