Man shot, killed at SunBay Apartments in Orange County

Witnesses describe victim's injuries as gunshots to head

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was shot and killed Thursday evening at an Orange County apartment complex, deputies said.

The shooting was reported at the SunBay Apartments on Aloma Avenue in Winter Park.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the man was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. He died on the way to the hospital, deputies said.

Several witnesses told News 6 that they heard an argument and three gunshots. They said the man was shot in the head.

Witnesses said they believe that the victim was dropped off by a vehicle, and someone in the car shot him moments later.

"He was gasping for air," said a witness who asked to not be identified. "I just heard them arguing and then I heard gunshots. And then after I heard the gunshots, we walked up to see what was going on, and we (saw) the guy (lying) on the floor with gunshots to his head."

Witnesses said there were as many as 10 people nearby when the man was shot.

Neighbors said the shooter tossed the gun into a dumpster before the vehicle sped off.

"When they came out, they didn't touch him. They just waited for the ambulance and when the ambulance got here, they didn't really do much either. They just put him on the stretcher and took him out," the witness said.

Deputies said the victim was 20 to 35 years old.

No information has been released about the accused shooter or the getaway vehicle.
