ORLANDO, Fla. – A fatal crash that prompted officials to close a stretch of Interstate 4 in Orlando on Labor Day occurred when two cars were speeding, police said.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. Monday on I-4 westbound near South Orange Blossom Trail.
Orlando police said investigators have not determined if the crash was a result of street-racing.
According to Orlando police, five vehicles were involved in the crash. One person died and two others, one of whom suffered life-threatening injuries, were injured, police said.
A man involved in the crash exited his vehicle and was struck by another car, police said.
The names of the victim and drivers have not been released.
All lanes of I-4 westbound were closed between Orange Blossom Trail and John Young Parkway for about six hours.
"We came in from Atlanta and we woke up early this morning to go to Universal Studios and low and behold we couldn't get on the interstate," said Dr. Joanne Green.
