Mayor-elect Jerry Demings touts new homeownership program

NeighborhoodLIFT program offers $15,000 down payment grant

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County officials are launching a multimillion-dollar program designed to boost homeownership in Central Florida.

Mayor-elect Jerry Demings on Wednesday joined in the announcement of the NeighborhoodLIFT program, which will offer $15,000 down payment assistance grants and education for home buyers in Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties.

"We want to make certain that the people who work here in Orange County are also able to stay here in Orange County and (can) afford to buy a home," Demings said.

NeighborhoodLIFT is an initiative of Wells Fargo in collaboration with NeighborWorks America and local nonprofit organizations.

"We want to be the solution for revitalizing our local neighborhoods," Wells Fargo Region Bank President Derek Jones said. "It encourages homeownership through down payment assistance grants and home buyer education."

According to Wells Fargo, the program also includes special parameters for members of the military, veterans, teachers and first responders.

On Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, a NeighborhoodLIFT event will take place at Double Tree SeaWorld.
