Former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings won the Democratic primary for U.S. House District 10 on Tuesday.
Demings, Fatima Rita Fahmy, Bob Poe and Geraldine F. Thompson battled for the new District 10, which was created by redistricting, meaning there was no incumbent.
Demings won with 57 percent of the votes. She ran for the seat in 2012, but lost to Daniel Webster, who ran in the GOP primary for District 11.
Demings was police chief from 2007 to 2011. She will face Republican challenger Thuy Lowe, a business owner originally from Vietnam.
Lowe told News 6 that she knows it'll be an uphill battle against Demings due to the district being heavily Democratic-leaning.
