Principal under Orange County Sheriff's Office investigation

OCALA, Fla. – An Orange County Public Schools principal is under investigation by Orange County Sheriff's Office after a student says his principal grabbed his wrist, twisted his arm and pried his cellphone out of his hand.

Sharon Jenkins, principal at Endeavor Elementary School, is under investigation by OCSO in the January incident.

According to the OCSO incident report, the student recorded another student kicking him at the table in the cafeteria and showed it to his teacher. The teacher relayed the incident to Jenkins, who then grabbed the cellphone from the student's hands, the report states.

The cellphone dropped and when the student went to show the video to his mother, it was removed from the phone, according to the report.

The student's father said the delay of reporting the incident was due to the school not providing him details of the incident and that reporting the incident to the school district and the Department of Children and Families was sufficient.

Jenkins is the sister-in-law of Orange County Superintendent Barbara Jenkins.

According to documents released by Orange County Public Schools, an internal investigation revealed the incident to be unfounded.

The Department of Children and Families also looked into the allegations and found no marks or bruises and concluding the allegations do not meet the definition of abuse.

OCSO is forwarding its investigation to the State Attorney's Office. The ultimate charging decision will be left to the SAO.

Local 6 contacted the district and they say they do not comment on personnel matters.
