Family and friends said Guerrero was passionate and filled a room with his energy. He and Leinonen loved to dance, which brought them to the club that night.
According to his cousin, Robert Guerrero, Juan came out to his family in 2016 and was afraid they wouldn't accept him, but they accepted him and embraced his boyfriend as well.
"They were very accepting," said Guerrero, 19. "As long as he was happy, they were OK with it."
Guerrero said his cousin didn't yet know what he wanted to study at UCF, but he was happy to be in school.
"He was always this amazing person (and) he was like a big brother to me," he said of his cousin. "He was never the type to go out to parties. (He) would rather stay home and care for his niece and nephew."
