TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A man suffered severe burns to his hands and face after a fire broke out inside his Titusville home, Brevard County fire officials said.
The fire was reported around 3:15 a.m. Monday at a home on Palomino Drive near Dairy Road.
Brevard County Fire Rescue officials said the man was asleep when his mattress and nightstand caught fire.
The man had been working on his lamp, which apparently sparked the blaze, officials said.
The man ran to a neighboring house for help.
"I was shaking. It was traumatic, man," the neighbor said. "I was just standing there trying to get the phone to go. Your mind in an emergency like that is really something you've got to get control of."
The victim was airlifted to a burn center at an Orlando hospital. His condition has not been released.
No other details have been released.
The blaze occurred just a few miles from an apartment fire that displaced 12 people Sunday.
