Man, 63, found dead after SWAT team called to Summerfield home

Family member injured during initial shooting, deputies say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 63-year-old man was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after he shot a family member who was checking on him, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the 8800 block of Southeast 142nd Lane around 2 p.m after receiving reports of a shooting.

Deputies said a relative checked on John James Harmonic, and Harmonic shot him in the arm through the screen door. The victim suffered a non-life-threatening injury, deputies said.

The SWAT team was called, and detectives obtained arrest and search warrants for Harmonic and the home.

Harmonic was found dead around 11:30 p.m., officials said.

No other details have been released.
