All-clear issued at Titusville middle school after bomb threat

Classes resume at Andrew Jackson Middle School

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A Titusville middle school was evacuated Thursday because of a bomb threat, Brevard County Public Schools officials said.

Andrew Jackson Middle School, which has 600 students, was evacuated at 12:45 p.m. School officials said police conducted a sweep of the campus and an all-clear was issued an hour later.

Students and faculty, who had gone to a nearby field on the west side of the school, returned to class.

School activities resumed as normal for the rest of the day, officials said, but some parents picked up their children early.

"As always, school administration is working closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students and staff," Brevard County Public Schools officials said.

A parent who left work early to pick up his daughter from school spoke to News 6.

"It's an inconvenience to me and the students and the faculty and everyone in the community," Andrew Stevenson said. "It's a sad state of affairs. I hope they catch who did it and punish them."

Stevenson commended the school for how the situation was handled, but another Jackson Middle parent speaking to News 6 on Thursday said she wished the school would have called her before the all-clear was given.

"They called like three or four times and let us know the people were here and all that stuff, but they should have called me automatically, not after the bomb threat was over, but while it was going on so we could find out about our kids," parent Dayema Jefferson said.

Jefferson told News 6 authorities on the scene told her the nature of the threat came from a note left in a school bathroom threatening to blow the school up.

Thursday's threat is the latest of its kind at a Titusville school in the past month.

Two previous threats involved Astronaut High School.
