Trayvon Martin investigation: What we don't know

Local 6 breaks down what evidence hasn't been released

SANFORD, Fla. – As more details surface in the Trayvon Martin shooting death investigation, there is still a lot of information that hasn't been released.

Local 6's Mike DeForest breaks down what hasn't been seen and what could prove to be key evidence in the Martin investigation.

  • Surveillance video in the Sanford neighborhood. It's not clear if video of Martin's confrontation with neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman even exists. If so, seeing any video that could depict the events of the night Martin died could bring light to the investigation.
  • Surveillance video from the 7-Eleven store. Police may have obtained video from the 7-Eleven that Martin visited for the bag of Skittles and iced tea he was walking home with on Feb. 26, but it hasn't been released.
  • Cellphone records of Zimmerman and Martin.  The Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump has talked about Martin's cellphone calls and records, but authorities haven't released full phone records of Martin or Zimmerman.
  • Witness statements. Reports have said witnesses saw Martin on top of Zimmerman, but statements from the witnesses have not been released.
  • EMS reports. Police reports say Zimmerman had injuries to his head and face, but reports detailing Zimmerman's medical treatment aren't accessible.
  • Zimmerman's personal medical records. Zimmerman's father says Zimmerman went to the doctor the day after he shot and killed Martin and that's when they learned of Zimmerman's broken nose.
  • Zimmerman's interview at the police station. Interviews are likely recorded, but Zimmerman's interview at the Sanford police station hasn't been released.
  • Zimmerman's re-enactment at the scene. Zimmerman's father says his son re-enacted his confrontation with Martin at the scene the next day, but no information has been shared.
  • Video of Zimmerman leaving police department. Police released enhanced video of Zimmerman at the Sanford Police Department in handcuffs, but video of Zimmerman leaving hasn't been released.
  • Police radio transmissions and dashboard cameras. It's not clear if police have the capability to record from dashcams or if it was in use as they responded to the 911 calls about Martin.
